Stupid and/or Perverted Bus Drivers: things that make you go hmmm

I have to wonder what this guy was thinking when he tried to write up the young lady for leaving the bus.  Maybe he wasn’t.  Unfortunately, this business of school employees trying to write up kids – not for doing something wrong, but for trying to hide nefarious behavior – is an all-too common occurrence.

Just yesterday, I was talking to the parent of a high school athlete who told me of a situation wherein his son was kicked off a high school sports team (in front of all his peers) for one reason, but when the father questioned the reason and was able to meet with the high school principal and head coach, he was presented with different reasons, e.g., things like “violating team rules,” which are not supported by the actual written rules turned into “it’s for his own good.”   Right.

I know the kid and the head coach.  Kid is a good athlete and not a behavior problem.  Head coach is a control freak for whom absolute loyalty is the number one priority.  From personal experience and conversations with him, I know he scoffs at the concepts of student privacy and that school sports are primarily for the benefit of the athletes involved instead of ego gratification of a high school coach.

The head coach likes people to think he has all the inside information on everyone and he’s not afraid to share.  Whether others want to know is not his concern.  I can see him kicking a kid off a team “for his own good.”  The head coach is a math teacher in that school district (not the same as given in the story below) and I can see him throwing a straight A student out of class for no more than sloppy writing or sneezing at the wrong time.  It would be “for his own good.”
The bus driver in the below story must likewise have poop for brains.  He should have realized that with the girl being a witness to his “perverted” behavior, that he should not have put her in front of an audience willing to listen and act on his unlawful behavior.   Too bad the high school principal of the kid referenced above is unwilling to act.

DUNCANNON – A Susquenita School District bus driver showed two girls a video clip on a cellular phone of the cartoon character Smurfette performing a sex act on Papa Smurf, state police said.

Tony Lee Campbell, 33, of the 3900 block of Sugar Run Road in Tuscarora Twp., has been charged with misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors, harassment and disseminating obscene materials to minors, records state.

The allegations surfaced when Campbell tried to have middle school officials discipline a 12-year-old girl for leaving the bus against Campbell’s orders, records state.

When Assistant Principal Jeffrey Kuhns asked why she left the bus, the girl said Campbell was a “pervert,” records state.

The girl said she had seen Campbell showing the video clip to two 14-year-old girls on several occasions between September and April, according to court records.

The 14-year-olds backed up her claim, state police said.

None of the girls was touched or sexually assaulted by Campbell, court records state.

Campbell’s bus route covered Penn and Wheatfield townships, state police said. He has been suspended.

Susquenita officials sent a letter to parents Monday notifying them of “possible inappropriate behavior of a bus driver” and urging them to talk with their children.

A woman who answered telephone at Campbell’s home said the family had no comment about the charges.

Calls to Superintendent Daniel Sheats were not returned yesterday.

  • Aren’t sports (specially in school) supposed to be fun and a way to keeps kids out of trouble. I guess there are some Coachs that really think this is life or death. I can’t believe they do it more for them than for the kids.. It makes me really mad…as you can tell : )
