Pennsyltucky politics: pointing fingers instead of governing responsibly

Yet another jibber-jabber press release.  boooorrrrringgg!

Rendell’s “Energy Independence Strategy” is a useless dog which seeks only to separate taxpayers from money they work for; at best, it will be no more than a politcal patronage haven for morons who cannot find jobs in the private sector.

Scarnati needs to stick to his guns no matter how much TJ Rooney calls him names.

Dear Fellow Democrat,Today, Republicans threaten the shutdown of state government in Pennsylvania for blatantly political purposes. While Newt Gingrich is long gone, they threaten to pull a page from his old play book that effectively shut down the U.S. government in 1994. However, history proved that the mean-spirited Republican ways backfired as President Bill Clinton emerged from fiasco unscathed and well onto a decisive re-election in 1996.While Governor Rendell today is coming off a decisive re-election, himself, having earned 61 percent of the vote in 2006, Senate Republicans are trying to do the same. This time, however, Senate Republians are being led by state Sen. Joe Scarnati (R-Elk), a relatively inexperienced leader who has been unable to offer a compromise or even a shred of hope that a stalemate will be avoided.Holding the state budget hostage is a grave disservice to taxpayers, state services and state employees. At 12:01 a.m. Monday morning, 26,000 state employees will have no incentive to get up and go to work as Senate Republicans will have successfully shut down state government.Republicans are also holding up Governor Rendell’s Energy Independence Strategy that would lower fuel bills, create more than 13,000 jobs and stimulate the economy. In additon, Republicans are also denying more kindergarten programs for kids, denying more Pennsylvanians affordable health care and blocking $1 billion in transportation funds to fix our highways, roads and bridges while keeping our mass transit buses and trains running.Remember that next year when Republicans are up for re-election. If they want to play hardball politics, let’s take them on and let them know that what they did with the budget in 2007 won’t be forgotten in 2008.T.J. Rooney
