Just issued press release by the Chairman of the PA Democratic Committee points fingers instead of suggesting resolutions to the budget impasse that has shut down pennsyltucky’s state government. Of the state’s 70 or so thousand state workers, about 25,000 are now furloughed. Of those 25,000, nearly 21,000 live in the central PA area, including Adams, Cumberland, Perry and York Counties.
Rendell, the governor with national political aspirations, is a former mayor of Philadelphia. Very few of the furloughed workers live in the Philly area. Frankly, if he really is the governor, then he ought to grow up and act like a real governor instead of using state workers as pawns in his political hissy fit against the state republican machine.
This press release is self-serving and full of baloney. It was obtained thru legitimate means.

ROONEY: SENATE REPUBLICANS TAKE PAGE OUT OF BUSH/ROVE PLAYBOOK
Would rather play politics than work to pass a budget
HARRISBURG: Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairman T.J. Rooney today offered the following statement regarding the Senate Republicans’ desire to stall on the state budget:
"Today, Republicans held a news conference that bordered on the absurd as they talked more about obstructing Governor Rendell's agenda rather than passing a budget. I'm unsure as to whether or not it's a lack of experience by Senate Republican leadership that is relatively new to this process or just outright political grandstanding by the GOP. In either case,
Pennsylvanians deserve better.
"According to statements made by state and national Republicans, it looks more like a concerted move from an old play book written to block any and all Democratic efforts. This morning alone, Sen. Jeff Piccola (R-Dauphin) was quoted as saying that "It's good to see Republicans acting like Republicans again." In other words, they will do everything possible to block a Democratic governor's agenda for the purposes of beating their chests.
"This comment is consistent with Karl Rove, the Republican operative responsible for a Democratic majority in Congress, who was recently quoted as saying "It is absolutely vital and absolutely critical that we get back to grassroots blocking and tackling in politics if we intend to get to where we want to get..." (Pittsburgh Tribune Review, 6/30/07)
"We are at an impasse that has been created by a stubborn and bullheaded Senate
Republican majority that has offered absolutely nothing in terms of a compromise. It is absolutely stunning and irresponsible of them to use taxpayers, state services and state employees as their pawns in this malicious game of posturing.
"It is our hope that they take the rest of the weekend to think about the consequences of their actions as elected officials.
"As Governor Rendell said, ‘If they are really Senators, they should behave like Senators.’"

Wow, an irrational Democrat shutting his whole state down because he’s not getting his way. There’s a real shocker. Just think of what his actions are doing to the state’s economy. This is a typical example of what happens when Democrats are in control.

Relax, Tony. It’s just a repeat of last year. It won’t last long because Ed lacks the spine to use furloughs to reduce the level of his administration’s spending.
But here’s the good news: with Hillary out of the running, Ed’s got no excuse for not getting his job done. I’m sure he’ll continue to disappoint us but we will (hopefully) at least have learned from his indifference to the needs to the taxpayers.
