I posted the comment, below in quotes, on the website of MeshMedia after Bill Hobbs, the operator of that website, posted some harsh and overly critical comments (including the use of the “c” word in the comments section of Brittney’s blog) about the lead blogger at Nashville is Talking, Brittney Gilbert.
Sadly, Brittney is no longer with NiT.
But you can check her out at her new blog at http://brittneygilbert.com
On the MeshMedia site:
“Okay, so I am an outsider.
What’s an outsider doing reading the hissy fit comments? Because it occurs to me, as I read more and more about the situation, that the so-called “blog coach” simply does not understand the purpose and results of blogging. And he obviously does not understand one of the very important roles of a newspaper: helping build a community (think, Bill [Hobbs], something along the lines of public service announcements).
I have no dog in this fight so you can take my comments as being somewhat unbiased.
But you should know that I’ve been a reader of Katherine [Coble] and Brittney’s blogs. Because both are interesting.
Most newspapers that follow Bill’s supposed and truncated “business model” are not interesting. That’s why people do not read them and do not buy them. They, like Bill’s mind, are stuck in the past. Stodgy, they dry like old grapes on the vine.
Wanna know something, Bill?
I am going to continue reading Brittney’s blog because she’s an interesting read. All thanks to the exposure from NiT. With no thanks to you, of course.
Mike – thanks for trying the experiment. I enjoyed it. And I am not even from Nashville.
As for City Paper, well, let’s just say that when I next get to Nashville that it will be one thing I will not be wasting my money on.”
I support my fellow bloggers who are members of my mybloglog community. I hope you do too by visiting Brittney’s blog and giving her a big “hi!” Tell her the cat with the bad haircut and wet hairballs sent ya.
