As I sit here enjoying a balmy fall day, jurors in Baltimore are again deliberating whether members of a fundamentalist Kansas sect are idiot loudmouth atheists masquarading as church people.
Well, no, that’s not true. The jury, pity them, need to determine whether a fundamentalist “church” invaded the privacy Albert Snyder, by protesting at the funeral of his son, Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder, a Marine killed in Iraq. During the protest, members of the alleged church, aka The Idiots, chanted “God hates fags,” “Pope in hell,” and other vile things.
Although the jurors have yet to reach a Decision, Jonathan Katz, the attorney for the so-called Westboro Baptist Church filed a motion for a mistrial. His complaint appears to be with the judge, Richard Bennett, instructing the jury to “use common sense, good judgment and life experience.” Katz claims the jury instructions prejudiced his clients’ ability to receive a fair trial. Never mind that jury instructions come AFTER testimony is completed.
Katz is also alleging that plaintiff’s attorneys, including Sean Summers, have spoken with the media in violation of a gag order imposed by Judge Bennett.
During the last two days and while the jury is deliberating, The Idiots have been staging a demonstration outside the Baltimore Federal Courthouse. The local papers are reportings that motorists are honking their car horns and shouting insults at The Idiots.
Chief Idiot Fred Phelps was seen earlier today holding a sign reading “God is your enemy.” This despite claiming to be a man of God. What sort of religious man insults God or claims that He is the enemy? More than likely, a man in serious need of an enema. I dunno, but wouldn’t this stupid protest outside the courthouse be a violation of the judge’s gag order?
Maybe the gag order applies only to the family of the man slain by terrorists. How sad that Lance Cpl. Snyder’s family has to deal with a domestic terrorist group during not only the funeral but also during a trial.
Fred’s daughter, Shirley Phelps-Ropadope is no better than the old man. I am tempted to include a picture of her standing on the American flag but I really do not want that pseudo-lawyer to get any more press than she deserves. Which is to say, none. And members of the Westboro group are reported to have sung “God Hates America.” What a patriotic bunch they are.
Phelps’ group is not really a religious group. More accurately, they are a hate group comprised primarily of one family.
Deliberations began yesterday. As of now, those deliberations are continuing. Personally, I hope that Albert Snyder’s attempt to receive monetary damages for the hell The Idiots put his family through at the funeral of his Marine son is successful.
Snyder’s success in the civil trial makes it more likely that the fake Westboro church will be unable to travel to any more military funerals. Maybe the nitwit Phelps family will finally settle down and get real jobs instead of pretending to be real or bonafide church folk.
