Criminal Indictment pending against Sarah Palin?

Wow!

Just yesterday, Sarah Palin announced she was stepping down as governor of Alaska due, in part, to bloggers ridiculing her and hurting her feelings, and because she did not want to be a lame duck governor. This with 18 months left in her term of office. And with The Dud, aka Todd Palin, still a sympathizer of the secessionist Alaska Independence Party.

Then, there was notice of rumors circulating about a federal criminal investigation, and a possible federal indictment related to the Wasilla Sports Complex and the Palin home residence (also in Wasilla and built at about the same time).

Then we have her attorney, Van Flein, sending out a press release threatening to sue bloggers who continue to circulate the rumors about the possible federal action(s) against Sarah “The Quitter” Palin. Here is a part of it:

“To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as “fact” that Governor Palin resigned because she is “under federal investigation” for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation. This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law. The Alaska Constitution protects the right of free speech, while simultaneously holding those “responsible for the abuse of that right.” Alaska Constitution Art. I, Sec. 5. http://ltgov.state.ak.us/… These falsehoods abuse the right to free speech; continuing to publish these falsehoods of criminal activity is reckless, done without any regard for the truth, and is actionable.

Wow. That’s all I have to say. Wow.

But, hold on! That’s not all !!

Now the FBI is getting into it, verifying something they rarely verify: disinterest in the rumors about possible criminal activity by Palin. Read about that in this LA Times story.

“There is absolutely no truth to those rumors, that we’re investigating her or getting ready to indict her,” Special Agent Eric Gonzalez said in a phone interview Saturday. “It’s just not true.”

Gonzalez added that there was “no wiggle room” in his comments that could exclude any kind of probe.

So, like… what the hell is going on? What is this “iceberg” Alaskans are talking about? Or are people getting ahead of themselves and in the process proving correct Sarah Palin’s claims that people are simply trying to bring her down.

Wow.

I dunno but having read a number of stories about a number of things about Sarah Palin, the building of her house, and Van Flein’s near-dearth of mention of that specific building in his press release, put up a number of red flags. Did she award a contract to build the Wasilla Sports Complex in exchange for a new 3500 square foot house on the shore of Lake Lucille? I dunno. But the timing and The Dud’s claim to have built it with his buddies smells fishy enough for the Department of Justice’s Public Corruption Unit to take a look. And the IRS ought to see if any of their regs were violated. Certainly the value of the work seems to exceed the limits on the value of gifts. It just does not smell right.

Does my opinion on this mean that Van Flein will sue me for defamation? I do not know. But to paraphrase Shannyn Moore, “suck it up, Buttercup” as I am exercising my 1st Amendment Rights on this issue. Plus, your press release has now put the subject square into the public eye. You broached it, not I.
